Are there dangers to consider when whitening your teeth?
I’m not sure if you would consider them real Dangers – or just some risks to be aware of…it all depends on you.
There’s no doubt that whiter teeth is all the rage these days, as a matter of fact it’s one of the most popular cosmetic dentistry procedures performed. It’s also one of the SAFEST!
Here are some risks you should consider before getting your teeth whitened:
Health: Ensure your teeth and gums are healthy! If you have any doubt see your local professional teeth whitening dentist.
Sensitivity: The most common complaint from patients is teeth sensitivity to hot and cold. Thankfully this only lasts a couple of days. You can usually get relief by taking a couple of aspirin or some other OTC pain reliever (contact your dentist if the pain intensifies or becomes unbearable)
Follow Directions: If you’re using an at-home or over-the-counter (OTC) kit make sure you follow the directions. Most labels warn you about tooth sensitivity and advise you to see a professional before using the product. The biggest problem with these kits is people use them beyond the recommended limits.
Nausea: In rare instances people have swallowed the product used for teeth whitening, which can cause a person to be nauseous.
So there you have it in a nutshell – the dangers in whitening teeth – not really anything to get too excited about is there?
Find a good, local Dentist and whiten your teeth professionally if you have any doubt about trying it yourself.
